eBay product video requirements, explained

If you're trying to pin down eBay's actual product video requirements before you upload one to a listing, here's what eBay's own help page says: the file size cap, the roughly one-minute length target, the upload formats and resolutions, the one-video-per-listing rule, and the restriction that rules out video entirely for listings with variations. Every number here is sourced directly from eBay's own help page, nothing secondhand.

eBay's product video requirements, from eBay's own help page

eBay's help page on adding video to a listing lists these limits and specifics:

We've scoped this guide to eBay's organic listing video feature only. eBay also sells a separate Promoted Listings video-ad product, which isn't covered by the help page above and isn't part of this guide.

Where to upload a listing video from

eBay's help page describes three upload paths. Every seller can add video from a web browser, using "Add video" in a listing's Photos & Video section. The eBay app also supports video upload, but only for My eBay users — if you manage listings through Seller Hub, the app doesn't yet support uploading video there, so a browser is the path to use instead. eBay's Media API, and certain approved third-party listing tools, are the third option, mainly relevant to sellers using bulk or automated listing software.

One video per listing, reused across listings, no variations and no external links

A listing can carry one video. That single uploaded file doesn't have to be a one-time upload per listing, though: eBay's own help page describes uploading the file once and then associating that same video with multiple listings, which is useful if the same product photo or demo applies across several listings. What a listing can't do is show video at all if it has variations (different sizes or colors grouped into one listing) — eBay's help page states that restriction directly, with no workaround described. And the video itself has to be an uploaded file; eBay's listing video doesn't support linking out to YouTube or any other external video host.

Review time: usually 48 hours, sometimes longer

After you upload a video, eBay reviews it before it posts to the listing. eBay's own help page says this typically takes up to 48 hours, though it also notes that during occasional peak periods, review can take as long as 7 business days. A video that doesn't appear immediately after upload is usually still in that review window, not necessarily rejected.

Where ShopShot fits

ShopShot's photo-to-video add-on is included on two packages: 5 seconds on Photos + Video, 10 seconds on Launch Pack. Both lengths sit comfortably under eBay's roughly one-minute guidance, and the delivered file size is well under eBay's 150MB cap, so neither length nor file size is a concern. It's delivered by email within 1 business day, the same as the photos, and checked against your original product photo before delivery, with one free redo if something doesn't match.

ShopShot delivers the video file only. Uploading it to your eBay listing, through the browser, app, or API path above, and checking whether that specific listing has variations (which rules out video entirely), are steps you do yourself. We're not making any claim about engagement or conversion, only that ShopShot's add-on fits inside what eBay's own help page says it will accept. For more on what the add-on is and how it compares to filming or a prompt-based AI ad tool, see our guide to AI product video for sellers. And if you're also deciding on photo count, background, and the new-vs-used stock photo rule for the same listing, our eBay product photos guide covers that separately from video.

Questions

What are eBay's product video requirements?

eBay's own help page on adding video to a listing caps the file at 150MB and says the video should be about a minute long, or ideally one minute or less. Uploads go up to 1080p resolution, through a browser as MP4 (MPEG-4 AVC), or MP4 or MOV through the eBay app.

Is there a minimum length for an eBay listing video?

eBay's own help page doesn't state a hard minimum. Its guidance is about one minute or less as a target length, not a floor, so there's no published shortest length to hit.

Can I add video to an eBay listing that has variations?

No. eBay's own help page states directly that listings with variations don't support video.

Can I link to a YouTube video instead of uploading a file to eBay?

No. eBay's listing video has to be a file uploaded directly to eBay. Links to YouTube or other external video platforms aren't part of this feature.

How long does eBay take to approve an uploaded listing video?

eBay's own help page says videos are typically reviewed and posted within 48 hours, though during occasional peak periods that can take up to 7 business days.

Does ShopShot's video add-on fit eBay's upload requirements?

Yes, on length and file size. ShopShot's video add-on is 5 seconds on the Photos + Video package and 10 seconds on Launch Pack, both comfortably under eBay's roughly one-minute guidance and 150MB cap. ShopShot delivers the video file; uploading it to your eBay listing, and checking whether that listing has variations, is a step you do yourself.
