Amazon product photo requirements, explained

Amazon product photo requirements aren't written on one page you can read start to finish. The real answer is scattered across separate rules for the main image, the 8 secondary image slots, product video, and what happens when a photo breaks one of them. This guide pulls those four pieces together, with a short summary of each and a link to the fuller guide for the details.

Amazon product photo requirements at a glance

The main image: a pure white background, and little else

Amazon's own seller documentation says the main image has to show only the product for sale on a pure white background — an exact RGB value of 255, 255, 255, not an off-white or cream. The product should fill most of the frame, commonly cited as around 85% coverage, and the image can't carry added text, logos, watermarks, borders, or other graphics. It also needs to be an actual photograph of the real product, not an illustration or mockup. See our full guide on Amazon's main image requirements for the complete rule and how ShopShot's Clean studio style fits it.

Secondary images: your other 8 photo slots

Beyond the main image, a listing can carry up to 8 secondary images, for 9 total. These don't follow the white-background rule: lifestyle backgrounds, angled views, infographics, and callout text are all allowed. What actually goes in each slot — different angles, close-up detail shots, a scale reference, in-use shots, packaging, infographics, a size chart — is seller convention rather than an Amazon mandate. See our full guide on Amazon secondary images for what to put in each one, and where ShopShot can and can't help.

Product video: its own format and length rules

Amazon's own seller page lists separate specs for the shoppable video you can attach to a listing: .mov or .mp4 format, up to 1080p resolution, up to 5GB file size, a length of 1 to 12 minutes, and up to 4 videos per ASIN. Eligibility is a Professional selling account, at least 3 months of selling history, and live listings — Brand Registry isn't required, despite some older seller blogs still saying otherwise. See our full guide on Amazon product video requirements for the full spec and why ShopShot's short video add-on doesn't fit this particular upload slot.

Getting it wrong: suppressed listings

A suppressed listing has been pulled from Amazon's search and browse results until the underlying issue is fixed. The most common image-related causes are a main image that isn't pure white, a missing main image, added text or logos on the main image, or more than one product shown in the main image. Seller Central's Fix Your Products page (Inventory → Manage All Inventory → "Search suppressed and inactive listings") shows the specific reason for any given listing. See our full guide on fixing an Amazon listing suppressed over an image for the step-by-step fix.

Where ShopShot Studio fits

ShopShot delivers studio-style photos for four real categories — bags, clothing, home & ceramics, and skincare — from one phone photo you upload, checked against that photo before delivery with one free redo if something doesn't match. That covers a compliant-leaning main image (Clean studio style) and several of the secondary-image slot types above; it doesn't produce infographics, size charts, or Amazon's 1-to-12-minute product video. Packages start at $15, delivered within 1 business day.

Questions

What do Amazon's image rules for a listing come down to?

They're split across four areas: the main image (pure white background, no text or logos), up to 8 secondary images (more freedom, no white-background rule), an optional product video (format, length, and eligibility rules), and what happens if a listing gets suppressed over an image. Each has its own fuller guide linked below.

Does the main image's white background rule apply to secondary images too?

No. Amazon's own seller documentation says the pure white background and frame-fill rule applies specifically to the main image. Secondary images have more freedom: lifestyle backgrounds, angled views, infographics, and callout text are all allowed there.

What happens if my Amazon listing photos don't meet the requirements?

Amazon can suppress the listing, pulling it from search and browse results until the issue is fixed. Seller Central's Fix Your Products page lists the specific error for a suppressed listing, including image-related ones.

Does ShopShot's video add-on meet Amazon's product video requirements?

No. ShopShot's photo-to-video add-on is 5 seconds on the Photos + Video package and 10 seconds on Launch Pack, well under Amazon's 1-to-12-minute length window for this feature. It's built for TikTok Shop, Instagram Reels, and Etsy listing video instead.

What does ShopShot cost and how fast is delivery?

Packages start at $15. Delivery is usually about 15 minutes and always within 1 business day. LAUNCH20 takes 20% off a first order.
