Google Shopping product video requirements, explained
Google Shopping product video requirements come from Google's own Merchant Center documentation for the video_link field: a length range, a minimum resolution, accepted aspect ratios, a file-size cap, accepted formats, and a per-product limit on how many videos you can submit. This guide also separates Google Shopping's video rules from Google Business Profile's completely different video specs, since the two get mixed up often in search results. Every number below is sourced from Google's own documentation, and we check it honestly against what ShopShot's own video add-on actually delivers.
Google Shopping product video requirements, from Google's own Merchant Center documentation
Google's Merchant Center help page for the video_link attribute lists these requirements for a product video submitted to Google Shopping:
- Length: 6 to 240 seconds (4 minutes)
- Minimum resolution: 1280x720 (720p)
- Aspect ratio: 9:16, 16:9, or 1:1
- Max file size: 500MB
- Accepted formats: MP4, MOV, WMV, AVI, MPG, FLV, MPEG-1, or MPEGPS
- Videos per product: up to 10
The video_link field takes a URL, not a direct file upload to Merchant Center. That means the video needs to be hosted somewhere, your own site or a video platform, before you can submit its link in your product feed.
YouTube links are accepted, but only if they point to a playable video
Google's documentation allows a YouTube URL in the video_link field as an alternative to linking a self-hosted file. The requirement is specific, though: the URL has to point directly to a playable video, not to a YouTube channel page, a playlist, or any other page that merely embeds a player. The same goes for a non-YouTube link: it needs to resolve straight to the video file itself, start with http:// or https://, and be publicly reachable so Google can fetch it.
This isn't the same as Google Business Profile's video requirements
Search results for Google Shopping video specs often surface a different set of numbers entirely: a 30-second maximum and a 75MB file-size cap, also commonly cited at a 720p minimum. Those numbers describe Google Business Profile, the separate product for managing your business's listing on Google Maps and local search, not Google Shopping or Merchant Center. We couldn't find Google's own Business Profile help documentation stating those numbers directly, so treat them as widely reported rather than confirmed firsthand the way the Merchant Center numbers above are. Either way, the two products are different, and loading Business Profile's specs when you actually need Merchant Center's (or the reverse) is an easy mistake given how similar the two names sound.
Where ShopShot fits
ShopShot's photo-to-video add-on is included on two packages, and the honest comparison against Google's 6-second minimum comes out differently for each one. The Launch Pack's 10-second video clears that minimum. The Photos + Video package's video is 5 seconds, 1 second short of Google's stated 6-second floor, so it doesn't meet this specific requirement on its own. The Starter package doesn't include video at all.

Both video lengths are well within Google's 500MB file-size cap and 9:16/16:9/1:1 aspect ratios aren't a concern for a short clip either. Length is the one place a package can fall short, so if a Google Shopping video submission is the reason you're ordering, the Launch Pack is the package that meets Google's own minimum; Photos + Video's video doesn't. ShopShot delivers the video file only. Hosting it somewhere with a public URL, submitting that video_link in your product feed, and checking resolution and format against the list above before you submit are steps you do yourself. Questions
What are Google Shopping's product video requirements?
Google's own Merchant Center documentation sets these limits: 6 to 240 seconds long, a minimum resolution of 1280x720 (720p), an aspect ratio of 9:16, 16:9, or 1:1, a maximum file size of 500MB, and one of these formats: MP4, MOV, WMV, AVI, MPG, FLV, MPEG-1, or MPEGPS.
What's the minimum length for a Google Shopping product video?
6 seconds, according to Google's own Merchant Center documentation. The maximum is 240 seconds (4 minutes). A video shorter than 6 seconds doesn't meet Google's own stated minimum.
Can I use a YouTube link instead of uploading a video file to Google Shopping?
Yes, Google's video_link field accepts a YouTube URL. It has to point directly to a playable video, not to a channel page or any other page that merely contains a video player, and the URL needs to be publicly accessible to Google.
How many videos can I add to one product in Google Shopping?
Up to 10 videos per product, according to Google's own Merchant Center documentation for the video_link field.
Is this the same as Google Business Profile's video requirements?
No, and this is worth double-checking before you upload anything. Google Business Profile (the local business listing you manage separately from Merchant Center) has its own, different video specs, widely reported as a 30-second maximum length and a 75MB file-size cap, also at a 720p minimum. Those numbers belong to a completely different Google product and don't apply to a Google Shopping listing video, or vice versa.
Does ShopShot's video add-on meet Google Shopping's minimum length?
Only on one package. The Launch Pack's 10-second video clears Google's 6-second minimum. The Photos + Video package's video is 5 seconds, which falls 1 second short of that minimum, so it doesn't qualify on its own. The Starter package doesn't include video at all.
